Orthopedic Supports, Braces & Mobility Aids
Not every orthopaedic problem needs a custom-made device. A great many are managed perfectly well with a ready-made support or brace in the correct size — a knee support for mild osteoarthritis, a lumbar belt for a strained back, a cervical collar after a whiplash injury, a wrist splint for carpal tunnel. These are prefabricated, available immediately, and cost a fraction of custom work.
Limbgenixx stocks a range of ready-made supports, braces and mobility aids alongside the custom devices we fabricate ourselves. The point of this page is to set out what is available and, just as importantly, to be honest about where a ready-made support stops being the right answer and a custom-made device becomes worth the money.
Sizing is the part people get wrong. A support in the wrong size either does nothing or does harm — too loose and it provides no control, too tight and it restricts circulation. Measurements matter more than brand, which is why we would rather you were measured than guess from a chart.
Knee Supports & Braces
Elastic Knee Cap & Knee Support Sleeve
A simple compressive sleeve. Gives warmth, mild compression and a degree of proprioceptive feedback — useful for mild aching, early osteoarthritis and general activity support. It does not stabilise a ligament. Indicative Rs. 200–1,500.
Hinged & Functional Knee Brace
Side hinges to control sideways movement while allowing bend and straighten. Used for ligament sprains, instability and return to activity after injury. Some allow the range of motion to be set. Indicative Rs. 500–3,000. More detail on the knee brace page.
Knee Immobiliser (Knee Immobilizer)
Holds the knee straight and stops it bending — used after certain injuries or surgery when the joint must not move. Prescribed for a defined period rather than worn indefinitely. Indicative Rs. 800–2,000.
Osteoarthritis (Offloader) Knee Brace
Designed to shift load away from the worn side of the knee. Ready-made versions suit milder cases; established single-compartment arthritis with deformity usually needs a fitted offloader, which we assess for individually.
Back, Spine & Neck Supports
Lumbar Support Belt / Back Support
Compression and a reminder to the trunk not to move into painful positions. Commonly used for lower back strain and during recovery from an episode of back pain. Best used for defined periods alongside exercise rather than worn constantly. Indicative Rs. 400–1,200. See lumbar support belt.
Sacro-Lumbar Belt
Extends lower to include the sacral region, giving support across the lower back and pelvis. Often chosen for sacroiliac pain and for post-partum or post-operative support. Indicative Rs. 500–1,500.
Soft Cervical Collar
Foam collar giving comfort, warmth and a limit on casual neck movement. Used for soft-tissue neck pain and whiplash-type injuries. It supports; it does not immobilise. Indicative Rs. 150–800.
Rigid & Philadelphia Cervical Collar
A firmer collar for genuine restriction of neck movement, used where that has been specifically advised. Fit at the chin and occiput matters a great deal here. Indicative Rs. 400–1,500. See cervical collar.
Spinal Braces — When Ready-Made Is Not Enough
Structural spinal conditions — scoliosis, vertebral fracture, post-operative spinal stabilisation — are not a job for an off-the-shelf belt. Those need a fitted spinal orthosis (LSO / TLSO) or a scoliosis brace, moulded and adjusted to the patient.
Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist & Hand Supports
Elbow Support & Tennis Elbow Strap
Compressive sleeves for general elbow ache, and targeted straps that alter load on the tendon attachment in tennis or golfer's elbow. Indicative Rs. 200–1,000.
Wrist Splint & Wrist Support
Holds the wrist in a neutral position — the mainstay of conservative management for carpal tunnel syndrome, and useful for wrist sprains and overuse. Night-only wear is often what is advised. Indicative Rs. 300–900.
Thumb Spica & Hand Splint
Thumb spica splints for thumb-base arthritis and de Quervain's tenosynovitis; resting hand splints to hold the hand and fingers in position. See wrist & hand splints, which also covers custom and dynamic splinting.
Shoulder Immobiliser & Arm Sling
Slings and immobilisers to rest the shoulder and arm after injury or surgery, and to reduce the pull of the arm's weight on a painful joint.
Ankle & Foot Supports
Elastic Ankle Support & Ankle Brace
Compressive supports for mild ankle pain, and stirrup or lace-up braces that resist the inward roll responsible for most sprains. Commonly used when returning to sport after an ankle sprain. Indicative Rs. 300–1,000.
Ready-Made AFO (Foot Drop)
Prefabricated ankle foot orthoses that lift the toes clear of the ground in foot drop. They work for straightforward cases in a limb without deformity. Indicative Rs. 2,000–5,000. Where there is spasticity, deformity or an unusual limb shape, a custom device is the right answer — see ankle foot orthosis.
Insoles & Arch Supports
Ready-made cushioning and arch-support insoles for tired feet, mild flat foot and general comfort. For heel pain and pressure problems, individually made insoles do considerably more — see custom orthotic insoles, custom foot orthotics and plantar fasciitis orthotics.
Diabetic Foot Protection
A diabetic foot with reduced sensation is a special case: ordinary cushioning is not sufficient, because the foot cannot report a problem. Pressure-relieving and offloading footwear is assessed individually — see diabetic foot orthotics.
Mobility Aids & Rehabilitation Equipment
Crutches & Walking Sticks
Axillary (underarm) and elbow crutches, plus walking sticks and quad sticks. Height setting is not a detail — a crutch set wrong loads the shoulders and wrists and makes walking harder, not easier. We set them for you.
Walking Frames & Walkers
Fixed and folding frames, and wheeled walkers, for people who need a stable base of support. Frequently used during early rehabilitation after surgery and in the first stages of walking with a new prosthesis.
Rollators
Wheeled walkers with hand brakes and usually a seat, for people who can walk a reasonable distance but need somewhere to rest. More useful outdoors than a rigid frame.
Physiotherapy Accessories
Exercise bands, hot and cold packs, cushions and positioning aids, and other durable equipment used alongside a rehabilitation programme.
Ready-Made or Custom-Made? How to Decide
This is the question worth getting right, because it decides both how well the device works and how much you spend.
A ready-made support is usually enough when the problem is mild to moderate, the limb or trunk is of fairly typical shape with no fixed deformity, the support is needed for a defined period of recovery, skin sensation is normal, and the aim is comfort, compression or a modest limit on movement.
A custom-made device is worth the difference when there is a fixed deformity or unusual limb shape, a structural condition such as scoliosis or an unstable spine, spasticity or significant muscle weakness, reduced sensation — particularly a diabetic foot — a need for precise correction or offloading, or when the device will be worn daily for years rather than weeks. A poorly fitting support worn long-term can cause its own problems.

Getting the Size Right
Ready-made supports come in sizes, and the size is set by measurement, not by your clothing size or body weight. Depending on the product that means the circumference of the thigh above the knee, the calf, the waist or the wrist, sometimes with a length as well.
- Measure the limb, not the garment over it
- Take the measurement at the point the product specifies — a few centimetres higher or lower changes the size
- If your measurement falls between two sizes, tell us; the right choice depends on the product and on why you need it
- Swelling matters. A limb that swells through the day may need a different choice or an adjustable design
- A support should feel firm, never numbing. Pins and needles, colour change or increasing pain means take it off

Frequently Asked Questions
A ready-made support is manufactured in standard sizes and you choose the one that fits. A custom-made device is built to the shape of your own limb or trunk from a cast, scan or detailed measurements. Ready-made is cheaper and available immediately and is often entirely adequate for mild to moderate problems. Custom becomes worth the difference where there is deformity, a structural condition, spasticity, reduced sensation, or where the device will be worn daily for years.
By measuring. Sizes are set by limb or trunk circumference at a specified point, not by clothing size or body weight, so measure the limb itself at the point the product specifies. If you fall between two sizes, ask us rather than guessing, because the right choice depends on the product and on what you are treating.
Firm, but never numbing. It should hold without causing pins and needles, colour change in the limb, or increasing pain. If any of those happen, take it off. A support that has to be pulled painfully tight to feel like it is working is usually the wrong size or the wrong type.
That depends on the product and on why you are wearing it. Many supports, lumbar belts in particular, are intended for defined periods alongside exercise rather than constant use, because relying on them continuously can let the muscles they are supporting weaken. Follow the advice given for your own situation.

You can, and for a simple elastic support that may be perfectly sensible. What you do not get over a pharmacy counter is someone measuring you, checking that the type suits your actual condition, and telling you when a ready-made product is not the right answer. That is the part we would rather you had, and there is no charge for asking.
