Össur is an Icelandic manufacturer of prosthetic and orthotic components, known particularly for carbon fibre feet, microprocessor knees and vacuum suspension systems. Limbgenixx fits Össur components for patients where they suit the clinical picture and the budget, alongside components from Ottobock and other manufacturers.
Limbgenixx is an independent prosthetics and orthotics centre. We are not an Össur dealership, distributor or authorised agent. We source components through authorised supply channels in India, and availability of any particular product should be confirmed with us before you rely on it.
Which component suits you is a clinical decision, not a brand preference. A well-made socket with mid-range components will outperform a premium foot on a socket that does not fit, so the assessment comes first and the component list second.
Össur Components We Fit
Carbon Fibre Feet & Running Blades
Össur's carbon fibre dynamic-response feet store energy through stance and return it at push-off. The Flex-Foot family covers everyday through to high-activity use, and the Flex-Foot Cheetah is the sprinting blade used in Paralympic athletics. Powered & Microprocessor Ankle
The Proprio Foot is a motorised ankle that adjusts its angle during swing to clear the ground and to adapt on slopes and stairs. It suits active users who can maintain and charge it, and who will get genuine benefit from ankle adaptation. Indicative from Rs. 5,00,000.
Microprocessor Knees
The Rheo Knee uses magnetorheological resistance controlled by onboard sensors, adjusting continuously to walking speed and terrain. As with any microprocessor knee, it needs charging, servicing through the manufacturer's own channel, and a user for whom the added stability justifies the cost. Indicative from Rs. 5,00,000. Vacuum Suspension
Unity is a vacuum-assisted suspension system that actively maintains negative pressure inside the socket. It holds limb volume steadier through the day and reduces pistoning, at the cost of more components to look after. See components & suspension.
Silicone Liners
Össur produces a range of silicone and gel liners in locking, cushion and seal-in configurations. Liner choice follows your limb shape, skin condition and suspension method, and sizing matters as much as material. Indicative Rs. 5,000–18,000. See prosthetic liners.
Unloader Knee Bracing
On the orthotic side, the Unloader One is an offloading brace for single-compartment knee osteoarthritis, designed to shift load away from the worn side of the joint. Indicative Rs. 35,000–60,000. Lower-cost ready-made options are covered on orthopedic supports & braces and knee bracing.

Is a Premium Component the Right Choice?
Worth saying plainly, because these are large sums of money. A premium component earns its cost when the user's activity genuinely demands it — long distances, uneven ground, stairs and slopes, running, or an occupation that loads the limb hard. It earns much less when the limb is used for moderate indoor walking, and it can be a liability where servicing is difficult to reach.
Things worth weighing before committing:
- Your actual activity, not your aspirational activity
- Servicing. Microprocessor and powered components are serviced through the manufacturer's channel, which means time without the limb
- Charging and care. Powered components need routine charging and are less tolerant of water and dust
- The socket first. Money spent getting the socket right is never wasted; money spent on a premium foot above a poor socket usually is
- Scheme cover. Government schemes such as ADIP/ALIMCO generally cover basic components rather than premium imported systems

Sprinting blades can be obtained in India, and we can advise on whether one is appropriate for you. Two things are worth knowing: a running blade is designed for running and is not a walking foot, so most users need a separate everyday foot as well; and blades are prescribed against a genuine running requirement and activity level rather than supplied on request.
The range is very wide - liners at the lower end, carbon feet in the middle, and powered ankles and microprocessor knees substantially higher. The indicative figures on this page exclude the socket and fitting work, which is a large part of the total. Neither, in general. Both are established manufacturers with strong ranges, and the meaningful comparison is between specific components for a specific patient, not between the companies. Your amputation level, activity, body weight, terrain and budget decide it, and we make that recommendation at assessment rather than by brand.
Generally not. The ADIP scheme administered through ALIMCO covers basic prosthetic provision, typically domestic components rather than premium imported systems. Some service schemes such as CGHS or ECHS may contribute in particular circumstances. We can advise on what applies, but eligibility is decided by the scheme, not by us.
