Orthoses are braces that support, control or protect a part of the body. They are made and fitted at Shri Krishna Orthopedics in Indore, the Limbgenixx centre for Indore, Ujjain and Ratlam.
If you have been handed a prescription with an abbreviation on it, the naming is simpler than it looks: each letter is a joint the brace crosses, listed from the top down. AFO or KAFO: which brace does what explains it properly.
The most commonly prescribed lower-limb brace. Holds the foot up during swing, controls the ankle at heel strike, or limits unwanted movement. See AFO.
Where the front of the foot cannot be lifted and the toes catch. Flexible, rigid, articulated or carbon fibre, depending on how much control is needed.
Adds a knee joint where the knee cannot be trusted to hold weight — locked, free or stance-control. See KAFO.
Extends to a pelvic section where hip control is also needed. Prescribed selectively. See HKAFO.
Post-polio weakness remains one of the most common reasons for long leg bracing in this part of Madhya Pradesh. A caliper has to be strong enough to take years of daily use and light enough to actually be worn — those pull against each other, and getting the balance right is most of the job.
We make and fit them, and we repair and refit existing ones. A caliper that has been worn for years and no longer fits properly is worth bringing in rather than persevering with. See polio calipers and KAFO leg braces.
LSO and TLSO bracing. See spinal braces and lumbar supports.
Custom bracing for adolescent scoliosis, worn to the schedule the treating clinician sets. See scoliosis brace.
The practical difference with children is simple: adults are refitted when something changes, children are refitted because they grow. Expect regular refits and budget for them — they are part of treatment, not a sign something went wrong. We make paediatric AFOs, KAFOs, spinal bracing and clubfoot bracing after Ponseti casting. See pediatric orthotics and clubfoot bracing.

At Shri Krishna Orthopedics, H-No 283, near Scheme No 51, Shubham Palace, Indore 452006, open every day 9:00 am to 7:00 pm. Both are custom-made after an assessment and casting.
Yes. We make and fit long leg calipers for post-polio weakness, and we also repair and refit existing ones. If a caliper you have worn for years no longer fits properly, bring it in.
An AFO crosses the ankle and ends below the knee. A KAFO extends up the thigh and adds a knee joint, used when the knee itself cannot be relied on to hold weight. The aim is always to brace the least that does the job.
Assessment and casting, then fabrication, then fitting and adjustment. We will give you a realistic timeline at the first appointment rather than a number over the phone.
Bring the current brace with you. Wear patterns tell us things a young child cannot, and they inform the replacement. Children normally need refitting more than once a year.
Yes. Off-the-shelf knee sleeves, cervical collars and lumbar belts are available and do not need casting. See orthopedic supports and braces.
