Artificial Limbs & Prosthetics in Indore

Artificial limbs are made and fitted at Shri Krishna Orthopedics in Indore, the Limbgenixx centre for Indore, Ujjain and Ratlam. This page is about the limbs themselves — what is fitted at which amputation level, and how the parts are chosen.

By amputation level

The level of amputation decides how many components the limb needs, and that in turn decides most of what follows.

Below knee (transtibial)

Socket, liner, suspension, pylon and foot. The knee is your own, which makes walking considerably easier to relearn. See below-knee prosthesis.

Above knee (transfemoral)

Adds a prosthetic knee that has to be stable under load and free to swing. Alignment matters more here than anywhere. See above-knee prosthesis.

Partial foot

Toe fillers and partial-foot prostheses that restore shape and spread load inside a shoe.

Upper limb

Cosmetic, body-powered and myoelectric options — three genuinely different tools. See artificial hands.

How components get chosen

Not from a price list. The questions that actually decide it:

  • How far and how fast you walk. A dynamic-response foot earns its place when you load it. At a slow fixed pace it is extra weight.
  • What you walk on. Fields, slopes and uneven ground point to different feet than flat indoor floors. This matters a lot around Indore, Ujjain and Ratlam, where a good share of patients are back to farm or outdoor work.
  • Your weight and build. Every component carries a manufacturer rating. That is a limit, not a guideline.
  • Servicing. A more complex component needs more servicing and is less tolerant of water and dust.

A thing worth saying plainly: a sophisticated knee or foot will not rescue a socket that does not fit. Comfort is decided by the socket. See prosthetic sockets and liners.

The socket is the part that matters

Everything else is selected from a range; the socket is made to your limb and nothing else. It is cast or scanned at the centre, trialled as a test socket, adjusted, and only then made definitive. That trial stage is why fitting is a series of appointments rather than one.

Limb volume also changes, especially in the first year. That is normal and is managed with stump socks of different ply rather than by forcing the socket.

Repairs and replacement

We service and repair limbs we made and limbs made elsewhere — straps, liners, feet, knees, alignment and socket replacement. See repair and servicing. If your limb is uncomfortable, bring it in rather than stopping wearing it; discomfort is usually fixable and is nearly always a fit problem.

It depends on healing and on how quickly limb volume settles, not on a fixed calendar. Casting before the limb has settled produces a socket that is loose within weeks. We will give you a realistic timeline after seeing the limb.

Several: assessment and casting, a test socket, fitting and alignment, then review. If you are travelling from Ujjain or Ratlam, tell us at the first contact and we will group what can be grouped.

Yes. Cosmetic, body-powered and myoelectric upper-limb prostheses are all fitted. Which suits you depends mostly on what you need the hand to do, so tell us the task rather than the type.

Yes. Bring it in and we will tell you what can be adjusted, what needs replacing and what it involves.

Tell us your situation and we will explain what is involved and what documentation is needed. See our page on the ALIMCO and ADIP scheme.
