At a wedding the bride’s hands are photographed more than anything except her face. They are held out, admired, compared and posted. For a bride with a hand or finger difference, that is the part of the day she has usually been quietly dreading for months.
So we make the restoration with the mehndi on it. The design is applied to the silicone to match whatever the artist is putting on the sound hand — the same motifs, the same density, the same darkened fingertips — and it runs across both the palm and the back of the hand so it holds up when the hand is turned over.
This is not a separate kind of prosthesis. It is the same silicone hand or finger work shown elsewhere on this site, finished differently. Everything on the hand page and the finger page applies here too.

The one thing worth saying clearly: start early. The restoration itself has to be made, fitted and adjusted before any design goes on it, and the design is the last stage. A hand brought to us in the week of the wedding does not leave enough room for any of that.
Tell us the date at the first conversation rather than later, and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done well in the time available. If it cannot, it is better to hear that in month one than in the final fortnight.
Bring a photograph of the design your artist intends to use, or the artist’s own reference. The closer the match on the two hands, the less anyone notices either.
Four pieces made for weddings and family occasions, each matched to the design going on the wearer’s other hand.

A silicone hand with a full mehndi design worked across the back of the hand and down each finger, in the same reddish-brown that henna leaves on skin.
This is work we are asked for before weddings. On the day, both hands are photographed constantly and held out to be admired, and a bare restoration beside a decorated hand is the one thing a bride does not want in those photographs. The design is applied to the prosthesis to match whatever the artist is putting on the other hand.

Held on the fixture it is made on, so the palm side is visible. The dense circular motif in the centre of the palm and the solid darkened fingertips are the traditional elements, and they are the ones people notice are missing if only the back of the hand is decorated.
Decorating both faces doubles the work but it is the difference between a hand that holds up when it is turned over and one that does not.

A longer restoration, carrying the design from the cuff at the forearm through to the fingertips. Photographed on the bench where the work is done.
Where the design runs onto the forearm it has to continue across the edge of the cuff without a break, or the join announces itself. Lining the pattern up across that edge is finicky and it is done last, once the device fits.

A single finger with a lattice pattern along its length and a solid darkened tip. Made to sit within a decorated hand without breaking the pattern across the knuckles.
A finger is the commonest request of this kind, and the most demanding, because there is nowhere for the pattern to hide. It has to line up with the design on the digits either side of it.

A silicone prosthesis is matched to one person’s own skin, so the colour work has to be done with that person in the room. Limbgenixx has four centres in India, and mehndi hands can be started at any of them.

Yes. The design is applied to the silicone to match the artist’s work on the wearer’s other hand, across both the palm and the back of the hand. The photographs on this page are of hands we have made.
As early as you can. The restoration has to be made, fitted and adjusted before any design goes on it, and the design is the last stage. Tell us your date at the first conversation and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done properly in the time you have. We would rather say no early than rush it.
That is the whole point of doing it. Bring a photograph of the design your artist intends to use, or put us in touch with the artist. The motifs, the density and the darkened fingertips are all matched.
No, and this is worth thinking about before the day. Henna on skin fades over the following weeks, but a design applied to silicone does not fade on the same timetable. Ask the centre what is involved in changing or removing it afterwards, so you are not surprised.
Yes — and a single digit is the commonest request. It is also the most demanding, because the pattern has to line up with the design on the fingers either side of it and there is nowhere for a mismatch to hide.
Yes. Rings, bangles and chains are worn over silicone restorations routinely. Bring the pieces you intend to wear to the fitting so the sizing accounts for them.
