An external breast prosthesis is a silicone form worn inside a bra after a mastectomy. It restores the shape and — just as importantly — the weight that was removed, so that clothes sit the way they did and the bra band stays level.
It is not an implant. Nothing is placed inside the body, no surgery is involved, and it comes off at night like any other garment. That is a different decision entirely from reconstruction, and one many women prefer, or choose while they decide about reconstruction later.
The weight is the part most often overlooked. A very light form rides up during the day and leaves the bra pulling to one side; over time, an unbalanced load on one shoulder is uncomfortable. Matching the weight of what was removed is what makes a form sit still and be forgotten about, which is the whole aim.

Wait until you are healed. The surgical site needs to be fully healed and the swelling settled before a form is fitted. Your surgeon or oncology team will tell you when that is. A form fitted too early will not fit for long, because the chest wall is still changing shape.
If you are having or have had radiotherapy, check with your treating team before being fitted. Skin during and after radiotherapy can be fragile and they may want you to wait, or to start with something softer.
Bring the bra you intend to wear it in. Fitting a form without the garment it will live in is guesswork. A pocketed mastectomy bra holds a form most securely, but many women use ordinary bras successfully — bring what you own and we will work with it.
Bring someone with you if you would like to. This is a fitting that many women would rather not attend alone, and that is entirely normal. Tell us when you book if there is anything that would make the appointment easier.
Worn in a bra, removed at night. Please read the points below it before enquiring.

An external breast prosthesis is worn in a bra or against the chest wall after a mastectomy. It is not an implant and nothing is placed inside the body — it is taken off at night like any other garment.
The two shown here are made in silicone with the nipple and areola formed into the piece. The weight is as important as the shape: a form that weighs roughly what the removed breast weighed sits properly in a bra and keeps the shoulders level, whereas a very light one tends to ride up and leaves the bra band pulling to one side.

A silicone prosthesis is matched to one person’s own skin, so the colour work has to be done with that person in the room. Limbgenixx has four centres in India, and breast prostheses can be started at any of them.

No. An external breast prosthesis is worn inside a bra, against the chest wall, and taken off at night. Nothing is placed inside the body and no surgery is involved. An implant is a surgical reconstruction and is an entirely separate decision, made with a surgeon.
Once the surgical site is fully healed and the swelling has settled — your surgeon or oncology team will tell you when. Being fitted too early is the commonest reason a form stops fitting after a few months, because the chest wall is still changing shape.
Check with your treating team first. Skin during and after radiotherapy can be fragile, and they may want you to wait or to use something lighter and softer in the meantime. That is their call, not ours.
Because an unbalanced load is uncomfortable and a light form will not stay put. A form that weighs roughly what was removed sits still in the bra, keeps the band level and keeps the shoulders even. A very light one tends to ride up during the day and drag the bra to one side.
A pocketed mastectomy bra holds a form most securely, but many women wear theirs in ordinary bras without trouble. Bring whatever you own and intend to wear to the fitting, and we will work with that rather than telling you to buy something new.
Wash it by hand with mild soap, dry it and store it in its cradle rather than loose in a drawer. Keep it away from sharp fingernails, pins and pets’ claws — a puncture in the silicone cannot be repaired.
It depends on the size and style. We quote after a fitting rather than from a list. You are welcome to message us on WhatsApp beforehand with any questions, including about how the appointment itself works.
