Facial restorations are made in the same silicone and by the same process as the hand and foot work, but they are judged far more harshly, because a face is looked at directly and from close range. The shape has to be right before the colour matters at all.
Where there is a sound ear or eye on the other side, it is used as the pattern and mirrored. Brow hair and lashes are implanted strand by strand. An iris is matched to the remaining eye for colour and size.
One thing has to be said plainly and up front, because it is the question behind most enquiries we get: these restore appearance only. A silicone ear does not restore any hearing. An orbital prosthesis does not restore any sight, and does not move with the other eye. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling you something that does not exist.

Facial restoration sits next to medical and surgical care rather than replacing any of it. A few distinctions are worth having clear before you enquire:
An orbital prosthesis covers the eye socket and the surrounding skin, and is used where the eye and the tissue around it have both been lost. An artificial eye that sits inside a surgically prepared socket is a different device, usually made and fitted by an ocularist. If you are not sure which your case needs, send photographs and we will tell you.
Hearing is an ENT and audiology question and is entirely separate from an ear restoration. If hearing is your concern, see an ENT surgeon — a prosthesis will not help with it either way.
How a facial prosthesis is held on varies. Medical adhesive is common. Implant-retained systems, where the prosthesis clips to fixtures placed in the bone, require surgery by a maxillofacial surgeon and are a decision made with them, not with us. Ask the centre what applies to your case rather than assuming.
Both are restorations of appearance. Please read what each one does and does not do before enquiring.

Silicone ear restorations, shown here in several skin tones. The helix, the antihelix, the tragus and the lobe are each formed individually — an ear has a complicated shape and a simplified one is obvious from across a room.
Where there is a sound ear on the other side, it is used as the pattern and mirrored. Where both are affected, the shape is worked out from the wearer’s face and from family photographs if there are any.
| Material | Medical-grade silicone |
|---|---|
| Made to | One person only — taken from an impression and matched to the sound side |
| Colour matching | Done in person at the centre, against the wearer’s own skin |
| Retention | Depends on the case — confirm with the centre |
| What it does | Restores the appearance and shape of the ear. It does not restore hearing — an ear prosthesis is a restoration of appearance only, and any hearing question is a separate matter for an ENT surgeon or audiologist. |
| Care | Mild soap and water, dried before wearing. Keep away from ballpoint ink, newsprint and strong dyes, which stain silicone permanently. |

This is an orbital prosthesis rather than a shell: the eye, the upper and lower lids, the lashes and the eyebrow are built into one piece of skin-toned silicone that sits over the orbit. It is used where the eye and the surrounding tissue have both been lost, which is a different situation from an artificial eye fitted into a socket.
The brow hair is implanted strand by strand to match the direction and density of the brow on the other side. The iris is matched to the wearer’s remaining eye for colour and size.

| What it does | Restores the appearance of the eye, lids, lashes and brow. It does not restore any vision — it is a restoration of appearance only. It also does not move with the other eye. |

A silicone prosthesis is matched to one person’s own skin, so the colour work has to be done with that person in the room. Limbgenixx has four centres in India, and facial prostheses can be started at any of them.

No. It restores the appearance and shape of the ear and nothing else. It has no effect on hearing in either direction. Hearing is a separate question for an ENT surgeon or an audiologist.
No. It restores the appearance of the eye, the lids, the lashes and the brow. No vision is returned, and the prosthesis does not move or track with your other eye. It is a restoration of appearance only.
Usually with a medical-grade adhesive. Implant-retained systems, where the prosthesis clips onto fixtures placed in the bone, are also used, but those require surgery by a maxillofacial surgeon and are decided with that surgeon. Which route suits your case depends on the site, the tissue and your medical history — ask the centre.
Where there is a sound side, yes — it is used as the pattern and mirrored, which gives much the best result. Where both sides are affected, the shape is worked out from the proportions of your face and from family photographs if you have any.
No, and it often helps — a spectacle arm or frame edge disguises the margin of an ear or orbital prosthesis very effectively. But bring your actual frames to the assessment, because where the arm sits changes how the prosthesis is shaped and retained.
That depends on the site, the adhesive used, how it is cared for and how much sun it sees. Rather than give you a figure that may not apply to your case, we would rather tell you at your assessment what to expect and what the signs are that it needs replacing.
Limbgenixx makes them at its Gwalior, Navi Mumbai, Indore and Dharamshala centres, and patients travel to us from across India. Because the colour and shape are matched to your own face in person, this cannot be done at a distance — but send photographs on WhatsApp first and we will tell you what is realistic before you travel.
